It’s been a while, huh? (Staind voice). I had a fairly solid feeling that when I last published in July ‘23 posting here would take a fairly significant nosedive for a litany of reasons. While I haven’t posted for seven months, continued music writing partially took up that time. Songs have continued to stack up on my computer, and I haven’t officially “released” anything since June ‘23 (Flexible Dreams- Rosary). While the plan is to put out a more formal release this year, I missed the ability to share what I’ve been creating on a more casual basis without the rigidity of traditional releases. Melding the various aspects of my creative life into one uniform platform was an overall net benefit, and I want to make more time for it.
Song #1: Enough Talk- Rosary
Song #2: Stored Away (no vocals yet)- Twin Girls
There is no ultimate goal or framework for what Memory Machine will look like going forward, insofar as a consistent publication schedule. However, I recognized that I did miss what this brought to my life last year, the regimented writing schedule and the ability to share updates with others in an intimate and fleshed-out way. When someone reads Memory Machine they are taking time out of their days to sit down with something lengthier, drawing on our already stretched thin attention spans. I have a deeper appreciation for that time where we can share this space, where I can share what I’m doing creatively and someone will want to sit with it and be engaged in that process. The words I write, the songs I share, and the experience that I am forthcoming with, can only be experienced with those who choose to be a part of this. I am more selective with what I share now and to whom I share it with, and I want to continue honoring this space by posting hopefully somewhat consistently.
That’s that for now. Two new songs above, plus loads more where that came from. Should I put out an official Rosary release? Finish these Twin Girls songs and get a band together? Try out for an NFL team at 30? Give up my 9 to 5 life and become a professional Muay Thai fighter in Thailand? So much to do, so little time.
Talk soon,
Jack
